Sommelier - Dedicated to Delighting

Contrary to popular opinion, the range of responsibilities and tasks of a sommelier is much broader than "just" knowing a lot about wine. The training along the way to becoming a sommelier is an introduction to "Pleasure Management". This doesn't just mean recommending the right wine for the chosen meal - the sommelier is also educated in water, beer and the various spirits, rums and champagnes and is an expert for cheese and cigars as well.

An important skill of the sommelier is to be able to identify different smells and tastes and to keep them apart. In addition to a well-developed sensory perception, the sommelier must also have a talent for organisation. He/she is not just responsible for the purchasing and stock keeping of the beverages but also for selling the luxury food items offered as well. That means that he/she must also be able to sell the lesser-known wines. To do so, the sommelier should actively engage the guests, determine what each guest wants and then make an appropriate wine or beverage recommendation. This is not a job for people who prefer to spend their days in silence.

Another important prerequisite in this occupation is having the willingness to constantly learn new things – to always be on top of new trends on the beverage market. But visiting winegrowers and wanting to learn about their wines and ideas is a part of the further development of a sommelier as well. Those interested in the different aspects of delighting are perfect for this job.
