Our corporate philosophy

To help you feel right at home at HOTEL WESTEND, we’d like to tell you a little about the hotel’s history.

The WESTEND was built in the 1990s by master builder Pietro Delugan—a renowned architect at the time—for himself on the Stefanie Promenade (now the Passer Promenade) as a showcase of his architectural prowess. A gem that was recognized early on and placed under the protection of the Office of the Chief Curator for Architectural Heritage in 1984.

In 1907, the property was purchased by the Pöder family and opened as the WESTEND guesthouse. Despite immense difficulties, the guesthouse survived two world wars, and it was only thanks to the tireless dedication and idealism of the family of hoteliers that the hotel remained a guesthouse even during those difficult years. The WESTEND has hosted a number of distinguished guests. We would like to make special mention here of the well-known German poet Gottfried Benn, with his famous poems about Merano and the letters he wrote to his friends from the WESTEND:

In 1983, the property changed hands, and it was a stroke of good fortune that it was acquired by a long-established, traditional family of hoteliers (the Strohmer family, who already owned the Hotel Europa Splendid). The hotel was renovated with great care and adapted to meet the latest standards. The Strohmer family commented: “We were well aware that owning such a privileged property—one that offers such a high quality of life thanks to its location, architecture, and natural amenities—came with a very special responsibility.”

The beautiful, sunny rooms, the many balconies, the airy dining room, the elegant lounges, and, last but not least, the lovely garden all needed to be equipped with modern amenities. So we undertook extensive renovations, always keeping the people in front of us as our top priority—their needs, their expectations, their safety, their well-being, their relaxation, and, last but not least, their restful sleep.

So today we can proudly say that our guests feel right at home here, and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank our many regular customers for their loyalty.

We’d also like to introduce your contact person: Mr. Alexander (the owner’s son). Feel free to contact him with any questions you may have.
