Have you successfully completed your training in the hospitality industry? Are you now looking for an attractive entry-level position? Maybe a job as a receptionist is just right for you! The “face of the hotel”—that’s how front office staff are often described. As the first point of contact for guests, this role carries a lot of responsibility. At the front office, you’ll be jointly or solely responsible for the entire reception area. Working closely with other departments such as Reservations and Housekeeping (for example, you’ll inform them about early and late check-outs), you’ll ensure guests have a smooth stay. Always friendly, always keeping your composure—in this job, you’re constantly in the spotlight. In return, you can expect a variety of tasks; it certainly never gets boring. Duties of a Receptionist Warmly welcoming and seeing off guests (check-in and check-out) Operating the telephone system—handling and forwarding inquiries (acting as an interface between departments) Information hub—providing guests with comprehensive information (directions, restaurant recommendations, hotel services, etc.) Guest service – handling inquiries, fulfilling requests Posting services to guest accounts and managing the cash register Accepting and processing reservations The profession is as versatile as the requirements are extensive. As a prospective receptionist, you should possess the following skills: Completed training as a hotel management specialist Proficiency in German and very good English skills; knowledge of an additional foreign language is an advantage Proficiency in using MS Office (especially Word, Excel, Outlook) Knowledge of hotel management and reservation software is a plus Initial professional experience in the front office at a similar establishment is a plus High flexibility Strong guest and service orientation Confident and composed demeanor – remaining friendly in difficult situations and keeping calm under pressure Strong communication skills and enjoyment of interacting with guests Ability to work well in a team Well-groomed appearance and positive charisma Good manners and a refined demeanor
