Common mistakes in job interviews
Job interview: the no-gos
1. Unpunctuality: the worst start
Nothing reflects worse on you than being late. Even if the bus or train was late: it looks unprepared.
How to do it better: Plan a generous time buffer and be there a little early. This shows respect and reliability. If something unforeseen does happen and you are late, deal with it professionally. Contact your potential new employer in good time, apologize and give a realistic time frame for when you will arrive.

2. The wrong handshake
Too lax or too firm - neither goes down well. The first handshake often shapes the overall impression.
How to do it better: Press firmly but not painfully, maintain eye contact and smile in a friendly manner. This will make you look confident and likeable.

3. Inappropriate clothing or lack of care
It doesn't always have to be a jacket or trouser suit. But: jogging bottoms, skirts that are too short or sweaty shirts are a no-go. The same goes for an unkempt appearance.
How to do it better: Dress appropriately for the position and industry. Clean and tidy - this shows that the interview is important to you. A must: Come to the interview showered and with washed hair.
4. Poor posture
Your posture reveals more about you than you think. Crossed arms, slouching or casual lounging signal disinterest or rejection.
How to do it better: Sit upright but relaxed and face your conversation partner. Open body language signals interest and respect.

5. Lack of preparation
You have no idea what the company stands for and what your responsibilities would be in your new job? Anything but ideal.
How to do it better: Find out in advance about the company, its special features and your future job. Think about answers to typical questions and prepare your own questions.
6. Blaspheming about former employers
Even if it wasn't all bliss at your previous job, saying negative things about your old boss comes across as unprofessional and disloyal.
How to do it better: Speak neutrally about previous jobs. Instead, emphasize what you have learned and why you want to develop further.
7. Rude farewell
Make sure that you don't have any urgent follow-up appointments. After all, ending the interview suddenly or asking for a job offer straight away is highly inappropriate.
How to do it better: Thank them for the interview, confirm your interest and say goodbye in a friendly manner. The employer will contact you as soon as a decision has been made.
