How do I find the right hotel?

Finding the right employer can be challenging - especially in the hotel industry. There is a wide range of offers and working conditions vary greatly. Whether you are new to the industry or already have a lot of experience, it is definitely worth taking a closer look before deciding on a company.

In this blog post, you'll get practical tips on choosing the right employer and find out how to find hotels that have a lot to offer.

Tip 1: Think about what is important to you

Before you click through job advertisements, you should clarify for yourself what is important to you in your day-to-day job.

Ask yourself, for example:

  • Would you like to work in a small family hotel where you take on many tasks or would you prefer to work in a larger establishment with clear responsibilities?
  • Would you prefer a seasonal job with intensive work phases or a year-round operation with constant employment?
  • How important to you are housing options, leisure activities in the area or proximity to family?
  • Do you like working in the city? Or are you looking for jobs in the countryside?

The more precisely you know what you are looking for, the easier it is to find hotels that match your expectations.

Tip 2: Take a close look: What employer profiles tell you

A good feeling at the interview is important, but a look at the profile of your desired employer can tell you a lot in advance. Some hotels and restaurants provide insights into:

  • their philosophy and values,
  • Benefits such as free meals, accommodation and further training,
  • the team structure and organization,
  • Working hours and leisure models.

If you want to know which companies are particularly active, it's worth taking a look at our employer overview. There you will find numerous companies that are transparent about their working conditions - often including photos, videos and interviews with the team.

Tip 3: Premium companies: When the employer thinks one step ahead

Some hotels and establishments invest particularly heavily in their employees, for example through innovative management models, clear career paths or exceptional benefits. You can recognize such companies by the Premium Employer award.

By the way: In our blog, we regularly present premium companies that are setting new standards - from family-friendly concepts to sustainable company management. If you are looking for a workplace with real future potential, you should definitely keep an eye on this section.

Tip 4: Exchange ideas at eye level: ask to get to know each other

An honest exchange will help you to better assess whether a hotel suits you. Many employers offer you the opportunity of a taster day or an interview with the future team. Take advantage of this opportunity and ask questions such as:

  • What does a typical working day look like?
  • How does the induction process work - and are there any training or further education opportunities?
  • What makes the team tick?

It often quickly becomes clear whether you would feel comfortable or whether you would rather keep looking.

Caution: There are also a few pitfalls when applying for a job or having a taster. Find out about the 7 no-goes in such conversations and learn from the mistakes of others.
