Our team is what makes the Wedelhütte so extraordinary!

Sommelier (m/f/d) Wanted for an Exclusive Ski Lodge in the Zillertal

Location: Wedelhütte—in the heart of the Hochzillertal ski area, Tyrol, Austria

About us:

Our ski lodge is located at over 2,000 meters above sea level, right in the heart of the ski resort in the beautiful Zillertal. We combine the charm of an alpine lodge with upscale service and place a high value on quality, hospitality, and warmth.

For the upcoming winter season, we’re looking for a motivated sommelier who has a knack for exclusive wines and is passionate about serving our wines to guests.

The treasures you’ll be responsible for are stored in the highest wine cellar in the Alps, at 2,350 meters.

As a wine expert at the Wedelhütte, you’ll be thoroughly familiar with our diverse selection of wines and sparkling wines from Austria, Italy, and France.

Requirements

  • Professional Experience: Completed training in the restaurant or hospitality industry, ideally with sommelier certification.
  • Wine Expertise: In-depth knowledge of national and international wines—particularly from Austria, Italy, and France.
  • Consulting Skills: A passion for advising guests knowledgeably and enthusiastically.
  • Organizational Skills: Responsibility for proper wine storage, logistics, and ensuring optimal wine availability.
  • Strong communication skills: Excellent communication skills in German and/or English, as well as the ability to remain calm even in challenging situations.
  • ProfessionalAppearance: A well-groomed appearance and a confident, friendly demeanor.
  • Creativity & Initiative: Helping to design the wine list and curate the wine cellar with a personal touch.
  • Professional Development: Interest in wine tastings, trade shows, and visits to wineries to stay informed about trends and new developments in the wine market.
  • Team Spirit: Close collaboration with the kitchen, service staff, and management to ensure the perfect wine pairing.
  • Innovative Spirit: Openness to new trends and techniques in pastry making.
  • Well-groomed appearance: A professional demeanor and friendly disposition.
  • Commute: For winter sports enthusiasts, the commute can be made by ski or snowboard—including first and last runs on the empty slopes.

Your Responsibilities

  • Wine Recommendations & Service: Recommending and serving wines that pair well with the menus, including decanting and presentation.
  • Wine Selection & Purchasing: Coordinating with Manfred Kleiner and participating in tastings and wine purchases.
  • Wine List & Selection: Maintaining and expanding the wine list, which features approximately 450 items—from demi-bottles to large bottles.
  • Storage & Logistics: Proper storage, inventory control, and organization of the wine cellar.
  • Guest Experience: Creating an unforgettable wine experience—with expertise, passion, and personality.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensuring the highest standards in wine service and in the handling of glassware, temperature, and storage.
