It doesn't always have to be far away

You don't have to travel halfway around the world to get a taste of working abroad. South Tyrol or Bavaria, for example, offer perfect opportunities to gain international experience - with the advantage that German is also spoken there. This is ideal for starting out or for your first season abroad.

Many companies in these regions work to a high standard, value team spirit and are happy to welcome committed employees from all over the German-speaking world.

Good preparation is everything

Before you pack your bags, you should prepare yourself well. What can you expect in the new country? What will the working day be like? And what do you need to get started?

Your checklist for the job abroad

  • Find out about the country & region (culture, customs, cost of living).
  • Check the validity of your passport or identity card.
  • Clarify in good time whether you need a work permit.
  • Prepare an up-to-date CV - preferably also in the local language.
  • Arrange an interview (via video or on site).
  • Check accommodation & Arrival.
  • Clarify whether insurance (e.g. health insurance) is valid or needs to be extended.
  • Is a vaccination necessary in your destination country?
  • Talk to others who have already worked abroad.

What you should know legally

The requirements under labor law differ from country to country. In Austria, the current industry collective agreement applies. Within the EU, working in another member state is usually uncomplicated. Nevertheless

  • you often need a confirmation of registration or registration certificate
  • The following also applies to an employer abroad: you should be informed about your rights and obligations - e.g. working hours, vacation, notice periods.
  • Be sure to read contracts carefully: What does it say about salary, accommodation, meals?
  • Ancillary wage costs, social insurance and tax liability are often regulated differently

Tip: If you are unsure, you can seek advice from official bodies or the Chamber of Labor.

Out of the comfort zone and into adventure!

A job abroad can change your life. Whether in the kitchen, in service, at reception, in housekeeping, in the wellness area or in administration: you will gain new perspectives, develop yourself further and make valuable contacts.
