Gastronomy jobs presented: the gastronomy specialist apprenticeship

Catering specialists are true all-rounders. They are equally at home in the kitchen and in service and are also familiar with business management issues in their areas. The apprenticeship has only existed since 2005; previously it was known as the "cook/waiter" dual apprenticeship.

What does a catering specialist do?

This apprenticeship is ideal for anyone who loves variety and equally enjoys spending time in the kitchen or with guests. Within four years, you will learn all the necessary kitchen skills and become a professional in guest service.

In detail, this means that you will put together food and drink menus and be familiar with ordering and storing the necessary goods. You will be able to calculate orders commercially and keep track of the finances. As a chef, you know how to prepare and cook food and are familiar with hygiene regulations. In the service area, you decorate the tables, set them and look after your guests. You advise them on food and drinks, serve and bill them. You are a professional when it comes to drinks and know just as much about preparing various coffee specialties as you do about mixing international cocktails.

But that's not all: you draw up duty rosters, are familiar with labor law regulations, such as working hours, and are no stranger to environmental protection and waste separation in catering establishments. In short: you are a gastronomic jack-of-all-trades!
